Actor Willem Dafoe expressed his desire to join Joaquin Phoenix in a potential Joker sequel by suggesting the concept of a 'Joker imposter.' Dafoe, known for his role as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man movies, shared his idea for a follow-up to Phoenix's highly successful film.
He envisioned a scenario where Joaquin Phoenix's Joker coexists with someone who either mimics or builds upon his portrayal, sparking his fascination. Dafoe clarified that he hadn't discussed this idea with anyone else before sharing it in the interview.
The actor emphasized that despite being recognized for portraying one of cinema's most notorious comic book villains, he doesn't favor such characters over others. He stated, "I'll portray any role. You embody characters. I could say, 'Sure, it's enjoyable to portray villains because you can explore actions you wouldn't in real life, or it's intriguing to delve into your darker side.' But honestly, I don't dwell on those aspects."
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated sequel to Joker, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, is still in development. The movie, featuring Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, is scheduled for release in October 2024.
