Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell, the eldest daughter of reality TV personality Mama June Shannon, has tragically passed away. Mama June shared the devastating news of her 29-year-old daughter's demise in an Instagram post on Sunday (December 10).
"With a heavy heart, we regretfully announce that @annamarie35 is no longer with us," the 44-year-old began the caption of her post alongside a family photograph. "She peacefully passed away in my home last night at 11:12 PM."
"She fought courageously for 10 months, surrounded by her family, just as she lived, and we will provide more details as they become available today," she continued. "Your love and ongoing prayers and thoughts for our family during this challenging time mean the world to us."
Cardwell, the eldest among the Shannon family known for their appearances on TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras and later on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo from 2012 to 2017, was a half-sister to Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, and Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson.
In January, she was reportedly diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma after tests revealed the cancer in her lung, liver, and kidney. This type of cancer can affect individuals of any age but is more commonly observed in children under five years old or in adults in their 40s and 50s. Typical symptoms include weight gain, back pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness.
The mother of two commenced her initial round of chemotherapy in March, chronicling her experience on social media. On May 10, she updated her followers, revealing that she was currently undergoing the third round of chemotherapy.
"It was a relatively good day, although there were some challenges, and Cracker Barrel was satisfying on the way down, not so much on the way up," she shared at that time. "Nevertheless, overall, things are progressing well, and the chemotherapy is proving effective, so the outlook is positive." The heart-wrenching announcement comes just days after Mama June posted a video on Instagram, updating her 778K followers on her eldest child's health.
"Your requests for prayers for our family mean a lot as we navigate through this process. We genuinely appreciate all the thoughts and prayers, and we will keep you updated whenever possible. Just know that your thoughts and prayers are incredibly valued during this challenging time," she wrote in her post, concluding with the hashtag "#CancerSucks."
Her 23-year-old daughter, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, shared the video on her Instagram page and added her own message: "Please say a prayer for our family.”
Cardwell is survived by her two young daughters, Kaitlyn and Kylee, whom she shared with her ex-husband Michael Cardwell.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
