A grandmother who recently lost her husband has won a £4.5m mansion by participating in a house draw in Cornwall.
June Smith, a 74-year-old resident of Essex, entered the Omaze Million Pound House Draw and emerged as the lucky winner, securing a three-story, six-bedroom house that offers breathtaking views of the Fowey Estuary in Cornwall. In addition to the luxurious new property, June also received £100,000 in cash to assist with her relocation and settling expenses. The draw covers all the associated stamp duty and legal fees as well.
June, who has three children and six grandchildren, sadly experienced the loss of her husband, Ron, the previous year due to a heart attack when he was also 74 years old.
Having resided in her two-bedroom detached house in Essex for the past 17 years, June now has the opportunity to move into a much larger property thanks to her £25 entry into the draw.
Reflecting on her astonishing win, June exclaimed, "I was just about to enjoy a typical Friday evening in front of the television when suddenly, I found out that I had won a mansion. I couldn't believe it! The first thing I did was call my children, and the second thing was to open a bottle of red wine!" "Although my husband Ron passed away last year, I firmly believe he played a role in this incredible victory - he won it for all of us. Ron always aspired for our family to have financial stability, and this house provides us with that security.
"Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to the field of architecture, and he would have adored this house as it truly represents a work of art.
"We used to visit Cornwall for family vacations and stay in a caravan, but now we are proud owners of a £4.5m mansion - it's truly unbelievable!
"The house is absolutely breathtaking, and the views are simply mesmerizing. Even when we first arrived amidst the rain, it failed to dampen our spirits. It was love at first sight.
"There's even a dedicated yoga studio within the property, so perhaps I'll take up yoga. Although my son suggests it would also make a fantastic bar." She expressed, "I have six wonderful grandchildren, and now I have ample space for all of them to come and stay. We are going to have the most amazing summer holiday."
"After spending some time at the house, I have made up my mind to keep it for a while. Regardless of what I eventually decide to do in the long run, this win has brought about a life-altering change for our family."
According to the rules of the competition, June has the freedom to either reside in the house, rent it out, or sell it.
If June opts to rent out the property, local estate agents estimate that it could generate £5,000 - £7,000 per month through long-term rentals, and during peak holiday seasons, it could potentially yield up to £14,000 per week.
