Do you think it's about time we had GTA 6 in our hands, considering GTA 5 was released almost a decade ago? The fifth installment in the Rockstar Games' series was a huge game, and many people still play its online mode to this day. Despite its popularity, there are millions of gamers eagerly awaiting any news on GTA 6. So far, there is no trailer or release date for the game. In fact, the developers haven't officially referred to it as GTA 6 yet. They have only confirmed that active development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway, as of February last year.
Whatever they end up calling it, there's a 99 percent chance it will be called GTA 6. Regardless of the name, it's clear that the game will require a significant amount of money to produce.
When GTA 5 was released in September 2013, it was estimated to have cost around $265 million to make from start to finish, which is an astonishing amount. However, recent reports suggest that the total cost for GTA 6 could far exceed that figure.
According to Gamerficial, GTA YouTuber INTER recently mentioned that GTA 6 could have a total cost of approximately $1 billion when marketing expenses are taken into account. They also stated that the budget for development alone could be at least $250 million. However, another leak suggested that the game's budget might be closer to $2 billion.
If either of these reports is accurate, GTA 6 will be the most expensive game ever created, surpassing the current record holder, the crowdfunded title Star Citizen, which has raised approximately half a billion dollars since 2012.
So when can we expect more concrete information about this highly anticipated and costly game? According to a trustworthy insider and leaker for Rockstar Games, it seems that an announcement regarding GTA 6 may be arriving sooner than anticipated. In a post on the GTA forums, the leaker, known as Tez2, mentioned that Rockstar might be preparing to provide excited fans with an update on the progress of GTA 6 during the summer.
Tez2 stated, "I believe that the next occasion where we could expect to receive news or an update is around June or July, most likely the latter." They also added, "If Rockstar intends to drop any hints or GTA 6-related content within GTA Online around September or October, it would have to be part of the Summer update. Additionally, Rockstar is well aware of our activities as dataminers."
