Cillian Murphy gives update on Peaky Blinders movie

Cillian Murphy, who portrayed the formidable main character Tommy Shelby in the widely acclaimed Peaky Blinders series for nearly ten years, has provided an update regarding the speculated Peaky Blinders movie. Despite his silence since the conclusion of the beloved BBC show last year, fans eagerly await any news about the future of the story. Alongside notable co-stars Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, and Joe Cole, Murphy's portrayal left a lasting impact on viewers.
There were high hopes among fans that the mastermind behind the show, Steven Knight, would eventually reunite the gang for a thrilling cinematic spinoff. While there hasn't been any official confirmation about the development of a Peaky Blinders movie, Cillian Murphy has finally spoken up and expressed a strong desire to be part of it.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Murphy expressed his willingness to continue with the Peaky Blinders story if there are more narratives to explore. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the series and ensuring that any potential continuation feels authentic and justified. While Murphy has achieved significant success in Hollywood, notably through his roles in The Dark Knight trilogy and Christopher Nolan's upcoming film Oppenheimer, many fans still associate him primarily with his portrayal of the Brummie gangster.

Interestingly, Murphy revealed that he differs greatly from his iconic character, much to the disappointment of some fans. He discussed the pressures of fame, likening it to the act of commuting in terms of its relation to his profession as an actor. According to him, just as one must endure the journey to reach their desired destination, fame comes with its own set of challenges that must be navigated.
Furthermore, Murphy shared his perspective on fame and the motivations of true artists, stating, "I think that's the way the best people are: they're not doing it for any other reason but love of the craft. They have a compulsion to make work, not to be famous or get attention." He revealed that he prefers a low-key lifestyle, spending most of his time at home or with close friends unless he has a film to promote. Being photographed by people is something he finds offensive, especially if he were a woman being photographed by a man.

When asked about his status as a sex symbol, Murphy declined to comment directly and expressed that people are often "underwhelmed." He attributed this reaction to the perception of his iconic character Tommy Shelby, explaining, "I think it's the Tommy Shelby thing. People expect this mysterious, swaggering... it's just a character. I do feel people are a little bit underwhelmed. That's fine, it means I'm doing my job. Peaky fans are amazing. But sometimes I feel a little sad that I can't provide — like — that charisma and swagger. He couldn't be further from me."
