Jada Pinkett Smith's popular Facebook show, Red Table Talk, has reportedly been canceled by the social media platform's parent company, Meta, as part of its decision to shut down its Facebook Watch originals. This comes after several media companies, including BuzzFeed, Bustle, Insider, and VICE, have experienced layoffs in recent years due to various factors such as the changing media landscape and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Red Table Talk, which has been hosted by Pinkett Smith and features her daughter and mother, has been a hit since its launch in 2018, with 129 episodes aired over five seasons and 11 million followers across social media.
Pinkett Smith also used her show as a platform to address her husband's infamous Oscars slap, which has had a lasting impact on his career. The show, produced by Westbrook Studios (which was co-founded by Jada and Will), is reportedly seeking a new platform after being canceled by Facebook Watch.
After the news of the cancellation broke, Pinkett Smith released a statement on the show's Facebook page expressing gratitude for the partnership and wishing the team well in their future endeavors. The statement also noted that the show is in talks to find a new home.
Other Facebook shows that have been canceled include Steve on Watch with Steve Harvey, Piece of Mind with Taraji P. Henson, a reboot of MTV's The Real World, 9 Months with Courteney Cox, Unfiltered: Paris Jackson, The Biebers on Watch, and Tom vs. Time with Tom Brady.
Many fans of Red Table Talk expressed disappointment over the news, with one person saying on the show's Facebook page that they hope the show finds a new home soon so it can continue. They thanked the show for its openness, vulnerability, and meaningful conversations. Another person added: "It was an absolute honor being able to be on Red Table Talk and share my story during the Mother's Day Special in 2021.
It was so beautiful to be able to connect with so many of you here in Facebook.
Thank you for all the beautiful content and inspiring moments [Red Table Talk] TEAM! You were so wonderful to work with and I hope you are able to find peace and beautiful spaces to share as your journey moves in a new direction [...] [Red Table Talk] FAM forever!!!" Entertainment Weekly explained that Red Table Talk was one of Facebook's last remaining Facebook Watch originals.
