Amber Heard returns as Mera in new ‘Aquaman’ movie despite fan backlash

Amber Heard's reprisal of her role as Mera in the upcoming Aquaman movie has been confirmed, but it appears that many fans are disappointed about this news.
At CinemaCon, Warner Bros provided attendees with an exclusive preview of the first trailer for DC's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is scheduled to release later this year, according to The Independent.

Since the first film received widespread acclaim upon its release in 2018, the sequel has generated buzz, with Heard starring alongside Hawaiian superstar Jason Momoa.
Due to her ongoing legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp, which has been riddled with controversy, Amber Heard's public support has declined significantly.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has leveled several allegations of abuse against her, leading to a messy and complicated legal dispute. Heard, who is 37 years old, has been affected by this situation.
According to NBC News, Heard made allegations that her former partner had subjected her to years of abuse.

She testified about the highs and lows of their marriage and the impact of his "repeated" acts of violence in graphic detail. Depp, on the other hand, claimed that Heard was the one who initiated the violence.

Throughout the long trial, both sides made bold accusations and presented video evidence as well as witness testimonies.

In the end, the jury sided with Depp in his libel case at London's Royal Courts of Justice. However, many people still seem to struggle with their perception of both Depp and Heard.
Fans have been expressing their dissatisfaction with the news of Heard's return to Aquaman.

They have accused DC of defending an "abuser." One user tweeted, "Please interact with this tweet if you will not watch Aquaman 2 because Warner Bros is keeping a proven abuser (Amber Heard) to play Mera." Another user added, "Amber Heard is set to make a cameo in Aquaman 2. It's worth reminding that she was proven to have made false abuse allegations against Johnny Depp, withheld charity funds, and the whole world heard her abusing Depp in audio recordings.

Meanwhile, Depp lost his role based on unfounded allegations."

"If you needed another excuse not see 'Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom' Warner Bros’ has announced Amber Heard will officially return as Mera in the upcoming movie. Ug, gag me with a spoon..."

Following the conclusion of the high-profile defamation trial between Amber Heard and her ex-husband on June 1, 2022, a wave of criticism ensued. During this period, a Change.org petition calling for Heard's removal from an upcoming film gained significant traction, largely due to the allegations made by Depp against her.

Initially created by Jeanne Larson in late 2020, the petition emerged after Warner Bros requested that Depp step down from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series.
At the time of this writing, more than 4.6 million people have signed the petition.
