Taron Egerton speaks out on next James Bond rumours

Taron Egerton has an update for fans who would like to see him don the James Bond tux.
The Welsh actor, best known for the Kingsman film series, was among the names made in connection to Daniel Craig's successor in the role of the British spy.

However, it doesn't seem that the Rocket Man star will be asking for a martini (stirred, not shaken) anytime soon.

He recently shared his views on one of the hottest castings of the year, revealing there haven't been any 'phone calls' about the role. The actor also played it down and said he doesn't think he would be a good fit.
"I don't think I'm the right choice for it," he admitted in an interview with The Telegraph.

"You have to be consistently statuesque to be that guy. And that's something that I am still striving for. I've always struggled with my weight."

Egerton then explained that booking the role of 007 will be a long commitment for whoever is going to end up taking the biscuit.

"[Playing Bond] is a bit like being a brand ambassador as well as being an actor. And that could be really fun in microcosm, but I'm sure I read that Barbara Broccoli said that it's a 15-year commitment," he said.

"It's sort of irrelevant how I feel about it, anyway, because I can tell you there have been zero phone calls."

It seems that production on the new Bond hasn't begun yet as producer Broccoli confirmed casting isn't underway at the moment.
"No, we haven't even started casting yet," the 007 boss told LADbible on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards last month.

"There isn't even a script," she added.

It's safe to say that it'll be a long time before fans could get to meet the new actor playing the iconic agent created by Ian Fleming.

Alongside Egerton, several actors have been rumoured to be up for the coveted part.

After fan-favourite Luther star Idris Elba made abundantly clear he isn't down, speculations about who's stepping up to the plate next have started.

Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who recently showed his action chops in the fast-paced assassin movie Bullet Train, is one of the names linked to the upcoming James Bond. Meanwhile, Emily in Paris' Lucien Laviscount and Skins' Jack O'Connell are also a possibility, though no official confirmation that negotiations are taking place has been made yet.
