Woman Sings Beautiful Subway Solo With A Voice 'So Good It May Get Her Off The Streets'

A homeless woman stood alone in the train station, smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles rush hour. She had all of her belongings with her: some bags, a cart, and a blanket.
She stood there on the train platform belting out Giacomo Puccini's "O mio babbino caro."

Along came one audience member — a stunned police officer who was so impressed by her voice that he took out his phone and filmed a one-minute video that was posted to his department's Twitter.

"4 million people call LA home," the Los Angeles Police Department tweeted. “4 million stories. 4 million voices...sometimes you just have to stop and listen to one, to hear something beautiful."

And with that, the 52-year-old woman became an overnight viral video sensation. "I’m speechless," she told KABC. "It’s almost like a miracle."

This story first appeared on LittleThings in October 2019.

The local news was determined to learn more about the mystery singer and eventually tracked her down and learned the truth behind her identity — and she has quite the moving story to tell.
