People Are Still Only Just Realizing Why Will Smith’s Kids Are Named Jaden and Willow

Will Smith, his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, and their two children, Jaden and Willow, are a family blessed with talent.

In music, film, social media, and TV, the famous family have been delighting fans for over two decades - so much so that it feels like we know almost everything about them.


However, despite being crystal clear to some of us, it has taken people this long to understand why 24-year-old Jaden and 22-year-old Willow are called what they are.

But, as I mentioned, once it's pointed out, it is painfully obvious.

Yes, some fans on Twitter have only just worked out that Jaden and Willow’s names actually came from their parents' names.


So, Jaden’s name comes from his mother’s name Jada, and Willow’s comes from her father’s, Will.

"I was today years old when I realized that Will Smith and Jada named their kids the opposite sex versions of their names and my mind is blown. Will-Willow, Jada-Jaden," one astonished fan wrote.


A second Twitter user wrote: "I was today years old when I realized jaden and willow smith’s names are just their parents names in different forms???? Goodbye. [sic]"


"I’m absolutely mindblown by the fact that I just now have realized that willow and jaden smith are named slightly after their parents will and jada [sic]," a third tweeted.


Jaden Smith is a rapper and an actor, whose career skyrocketed when he co-starred alongside dad Will in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006).

After stepping away from acting, he has turned his attention to music, releasing his third studio album, CTV3: Cool Tape Vol.3, in 2020.

On the other hand, sister Willow is also an actress but is perhaps best known as a music artist. Willow also found international fame at a young age with her song ‘Whip My Hair’, with the debut track going platinum in the US. Willow recently released her fifth studio album, Coping Mechanism, in October 2022.

Both siblings are very open when it comes to talking about changing gender norms and how they choose to express themselves.

During an episode of her mother’s Facebook talk show Red Table Talk, Willow revealed she could see herself dating both genders at the same time in a polyamorous relationship, according to Popsugar.

Meanwhile, Jaden Smith has experimented with gender-fluid fashion, appearing in a womenswear campaign for Louis Vuitton wearing a skirt in 2016.


He has also released his own non-binary fashion line, MSFTSrep.

When talking about her children, Pinkett Smith admitted on Red Table Talk, per PEOPLE: “Everything is changing but it is beautiful. But I must say, it’s taking some getting used to.

“Jaden and Willow have always been different. They were born that way.”

And now we know they were born and named after both of their parents too, definitely living up to their namesakes.
