Massachusetts Woman Sentenced To Life In Prison For 'Ritualistic' Murders Of 2 Young Sons

A Massachusetts woman was sentenced to a mandatory life in prison term without the possibility of parole after being convicted of killing her two young sons.

Latarsha L. Sanders, 48, was sentenced in Plymouth Superior Court a day after she was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her sons ages 8 and 5.

Authorities say the mother stabbed her sons multiple times, referring to the murders as “ritualistic.” They were found wrapped in bed sheets.

The defense argued that Sanders was not mentally competent when the murders occurred.

"The family has been totally and completely supportive of Miss Sanders because they have recognized from day one that she was insane at the time that she killed her two children," defense attorney for Sanders, Elliot Levine, said in court, according to CBS News.

According to prosecutors, the father of the boys was in favor of the sentence.

"Hopefully this is some form of justice for the dad of the little boys and the family," Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said after the sentencing.

While announcing his decision, Judge Hon. William Sullivan said, "The pain of the father, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandmother that pain falls on their hearts and that's a life sentence for them.”
