Jamie Lee Curtis Refused To ‘Conceal’ Her Body for a New Film Role

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis was in the spotlight before she even started acting. She is the daughter of “Psycho” star Janet Leigh and “Some Like It Hot” star Tony Curtis.
Curtis recently posted a picture on Instagram where she showed off the character she is playing in the upcoming movie “Everything Everwhere All At Once” which also stars Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu. Curtis’s character is an IRS auditor named Deirdre Beaubeirdra.

While we have seen her expertly portray many different roles, this is the first time we have seen her decide not to “conceal” anything about her body.

In the picture, Curtis is wearing a yellow turtleneck that does nothing to hide any extra inches. Curtis did this intentionally. She wrote, “In the world, there is an industry — a billion-dollar, trillion-dollar industry — about hiding things. Concealers. Body-shapers. Fillers. Procedures. Clothing. Hair accessories. Hair products. Everything to conceal the reality of who we are.”

In this film, Curtis wanted things to be different. She wrote, “And my instruction to everybody was: I want there to be no concealing of anything.”

Then, Curtis got real about just how long she’s been trying to look a certain way for others. She wrote, “I’ve been sucking my stomach in since I was 11, when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight.”

The movie was in production two years ago, right before the pandemic caused lockdowns and a temporary end to film production in 2020. At the time, Curtis was 61 years old, and she decided that she was done sucking it in. She’d rather let it all hang out. Two years later, at age 63, she doesn’t regret that decision one bit. She wrote, “I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal.”

Instead of feeling self-conscious, Curtis explained that she felt “free.” She wrote, “I have never felt more free creatively and physically.”

Curtis’s picture and words about deciding not to “conceal” got a big reaction from her fans. One person joked, “This photo is literally everyone returning to work post-pandemic.”

Another fan wrote, “We are such a foolish culture. This is brave – though it shouldn’t be. Brava!”

Do you think it was “brave” of Curtis to decide not to conceal anything during the production of her latest movie?
