Chrissy Teigen Celebrates One Full Year of Sobriety

Different people drink alcohol for different reasons. Teens may drink due to peer pressure or to try to look cool. Adults may drink socially, as an occasional treat, at a celebration, or as a way of dealing with life. Drinking on a regular basis can be done in moderation, but for some, alcohol can become addictive.
You don’t have to be an alcoholic to fall victim to drinking too much and too often. Admitting there’s a problem is usually the first step in recovery, and Chrissy Teigen has done more than that.

Teigen shared on Instagram that she has gone a full year without touching a drop of alcohol. She wrote on Instagram, “not a drop of alcohol in 365 days!”

She admitted that sometimes she misses the way she felt when she was drunk. She explained, “I miss feeling loopy and carefree sometimes, but to be honest toward the end, it didn’t give that fun feeling anymore anyhow.”

Teigen also explained why she used to drink. She wrote, “I drank to end crazy anxiety that later mostly went away when I – get this – quit drinking!”

She shared that she isn’t sure if she’ll “never have another drink again,” but she is definitely glad that for now, at least, she is sober. She wrote, “I feel really good.”

There are multiple experiences that Teigen wishes she remembered better than she does. She knows that if she hadn’t been drinking so much she would have been able to enjoy and remember these events better. She shared one example. She wrote, “I drank cafe patron and fell asleep while an Outback Steakhouse chef taught me (my friends) how to make a bloomin onion at my house. I wish I was awake for that.” She added, “Prayers for a blooming onion redo, @outback??”

Besides not learning how to make a Bloomin’ Onion, Teigen also shared that when she looks at pictures of herself from events, awards shows and family travel, “my eyes just look…gone.” She claims she doesn’t even remember most awards shows.

Teigen plans to stay away from alcohol for the foreseeable future. Instead of trying to drink away her problems, she plans to talk them out in therapy. She wrote, “I’ll let the bad dreams come up and try to sort them out in therapy, without booze.”

Her husband, John Legend, commented on her post, “Soooooo proud of you, my strong beautiful wife!”
