Why Wasn't Prince Louis at Queen Elizabeth's Funeral?

Today saw the Royal Family turn out in full force to say their final goodbyes to the late Queen Elizabeth II, as the late monarch's incredible state funeral took place.

However, there was one young royal whose absence was sorely missed by viewers.

While nine-year-old Prince George and seven-year-old Princess Charlotte joined their parents, the new Prince and Princess of Wales, in mourning the Queen, the youngest member of the family was left at home during the funeral service at Westminster Abbey and following events.

It seems Prince William and Princess Catherine decided against bringing their third child who - at just four years old - was reportedly deemed too young to take part in a royal event of such a solemn nature.

But just because he wasn't able to attend his great-grandmother's funeral doesn't mean that the nation forgot the cheeky prince, who is known for getting up to all sorts of mischief during royal events.

Many people took to Twitter to lament that Prince Louis hadn't been allowed to join the procession - and to speculate about what sort of trouble he'd be causing if he had.

"A very serious day of course, but I think most people are wondering what shenanigans we would be seeing if Prince Louis was there today. I bet even the Queen had many a giggle at him," one person tweeted.

"Can you imagine Prince Louis trying to keep quiet the whole way through?? The antics we'd see," another wrote, while a third commented: "Kinda miss Prince Louis, was looking forward to seeing him."

Others joked that - having been left home alone - the little Prince was probably wreaking quite enough havoc where he was.

"Would love to see a Home Alone type film of Prince Louis left to his own devices at Buckingham Palace today. Absolute carnage I imagine," one person tweeted. Another joked that they'd like to have a glimpse at what he was up to, tweeting: "Personally think that channel 5’s alternate viewing should have been 'Prince Louis roams the palace'."

However, for the most part, people were in agreement that not letting Louis attend the state funeral was for the best.

"Not really the place for a four year old is it. Whatever the reason. The decision was the right one," one person tweeted. Another shared a picture of London burning with the caption: "The alternate universe where Prince Louis is in the funeral procession."

Despite not attending the Queen's funeral, Princess Catherine revealed last week that Prince Louis is mourning in his own way.

While chatting to well-wishers at Windsor Palace on Saturday, September 10, the Princess of Wales revealed that her youngest son had had some words of comfort for her.

"I was really sad when I found out and Louis said, 'Mummy, don't worry, because now Gan Gan is with great-grandpa,'" she recalled.

Prince Louis really should be protected at all costs - what a national treasure!
