Man Who Leapt To His Death In New York City Identified As Bed Bath & Beyond Executive

The man who leapt to his death in New York City on September 2, 2022, has been identified as Bed Bath & Beyond's chief financial officer (CFO), Gustavo Arnal. Arnal was facing a class-action lawsuit against him at the time of his death, and authorities told CNN that his wife saw him jump off the building.
Harriet Edelman, independent chair of Bed Bath & Beyond's board of directors, released a statement about Arnal's death.

She said, "I wish to extend our sincerest condolences to Gustavo's family. Our focus is on supporting his family and his team and our thoughts are with them during this sad and difficult time. Please join us in respecting the family's privacy."

Arnal joined the company in 2020. He previously worked at several companies, including Avon, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and Procter & Gamble.

The lawsuit claims in part that Arnal and others at the company have misled investors about its current financial situation.

Bed Bath & Beyond is currently facing a financial crisis. Per CNN, the company is preparing to let go of 20% of its employees and close 150 stores.
