Body Language Experts Are Working Hard To Decode the Tension Between the Royal 'Fab Four'

For the first time in more than two years, William and Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were seen together in public. Before the Sussexes stepped down as working members of the royal family, people were excited to see the couples, dubbed the "Fab Four," working together and having each other to lean on. But as we know, that's not what happened.
There was a significant fallout, and things have been messy between the Fab Four since Harry and Meghan stepped down and moved to another country.

It should come as no surprise that with Harry and Meghan in the UK to mourn Queen Elizabeth, everyone has been curious about how the two would be received. And now, body language experts are working overtime to decode the tension between the royals.

Last weekend the royal Fab Four appeared together outside Windsor Castle, where they greeted well-wishers. It was a surprise appearance by Harry and Meghan, who joined William and Kate — they even left together in the same car.
But there was apparent tension in the air during that event, and body language experts called it out.

Body language expert Katia Loisel spoke with Australia's Seven News, per Page Six, saying there were clues that Meghan was uncomfortable and Kate didn't care.

"Quite unlike the confident Meghan we know, Meghan appeared ill at ease during this encounter, which is not surprising given the recent criticism that she has faced," Katia said. She also noted that William appeared to try to make Meghan comfortable but Kate not so much.
"On numerous occasions, Meghan looked over at Kate; however, the gaze wasn't reciprocated," Katia said, adding that it looked like Kate was choosing to "look through" Meghan instead. And if that was Kate's goal, Katia said it worked.

"Meghan's hand lifted hesitantly as if to wave, but stopped midair, rather pausing to adjust her hair, her head and gaze lowered, before looking up and giving a quick wave, her arm coming back to rest in front of her body in a partial arm barrier," she explained.
According to another body language expert, tensions were also high when the royal family paid tribute to the late Queen at Westminster Hall.

Talking on the Palace Confidential podcast, Daily Mail editor Rebecca English said a lot more tension was felt between Meghan and senior members of the family, including Queen Consort Camilla, Kate, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

"A lot of what we saw happened off-camera because you weren't allowed to pick up your cameras until they saw the coffin," Rebecca said. "We had five to ten minutes of just watching them. The body language was fascinating."
Rebecca explained that a lot was being said in the body language between Meghan and the others.

"You couldn't help but notice the body language between the senior royals and Meghan from where we were standing," she said. "You could see that Camilla, Kate, and Sophie were together, and the body language was very comfortable between them."

That wasn't true when it came to Meghan. "But then there was Meghan, and you could have almost fitted somebody else in that space. It spoke volumes," Rebecca continued.

"Even if you didn't know what we all know that has happened over the past few years, you'd have turned up and thought, 'that looks a bit odd; there's something slightly wrong here.'"
The body language expert said she could see how Meghan felt.

"There was something self-consciously awkward about her posture, demonstrating the depth of the rift between herself and the rest of the royal family even if you happened upon them without any prior knowledge of the acrimony of the past four years," Rebecca shared.

"Indeed, Meghan, who was holding black leather gloves, seemed so lost for something to do that at one point she rested her left hand in her pocket," she concluded.

All of this should very likely be taken with a grain of salt. Although there is something to be said for body language, it's not fair to judge. The royal family is grieving, and they know millions of people are watching and waiting to read into anything they do or don't do.
