Gomez has previously been absent from social media for 4 years, despite having 340 million Instagram followers, due to the impact it had on her mental health.

Her immense fame has meant that she has had to deal with her battles in the public eye. She said at the time: "Every time I went through something, I was like, ‘What else? What else am I going to have to deal with?’"
The Rare Beauty founder has also been extremely open with her public struggle with lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects the heart, liver, joints, and kidneys. Gomez even received a kidney transplant from her best friend as a result of the illness.
In 2018, the star had a mental breakdown due to mental health issues stemming from her diagnosis. After a career break, she is ready to use her social media platforms to advocate for body positivity and mental health.
Gomez also sat down with President Joe Biden and his wife earlier this year to discuss prioritizing mental health.

Her dedication to mental health has resulted in her desire to implement a school curriculum focused on educating children how to be open about their feelings.
"There are so many people I know who craved help but had no idea how to get it. I have big aspirations for that field and really want to implement more education behind it," Gomez revealed via People Magazine.
