Taking to Twitter this week, the singer-turned-actor teased a video that simply displayed hers and Joaquin Phoenix's names. The 18-second clip was accompanied by a muffled audio of an old-timey music tune.

Gaga had written "Joker: Folie à Deux" above the video, which translates to "Joker: Madness of Two". The release date was revealed to be October 4, 2024.

This is not the first acting role for the 'Born This Way' singer, who wowed critics with her performance in A Star is Born opposite Bradley Cooper.

However, it was Gaga's most recent role in House of Gucci alongside Adam Driver and Al Pacino that put her on the map as a serious actor. She received strong praise for her performance as disgraced Italian socialite, Patrizia Gucci, with one critic saying Gaga was "tremendous fun and ultimately touching".

It has not yet been confirmed what role Gaga has been picked to play, though Variety reported that she had been in talks to play Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel.

Also speculated to play the role of Harley Quinn was Australian actress, Margot Robbie, who has transformed into the maniacal-yet-lovable villain thrice before - in DC's Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of Prey (2020), and The Suicide Squad (2021).

News that the upcoming Joker sequel, set to be directed by Todd Philipps, is slated to be a musical has been received well on Twitter, with the British Academy Film Awards official account tweeting: "how this tweet feels," alongside an image of Lady Gaga engaged in a group hug.

Director Todd Philipps' last flick, 2019's Joker, was a fresh take on the villain, who he managed to transform into a pitiful anti-hero.

Joaquin Phoenix won his first Oscar for his lead role as the Joker in the movie, which was an instant box office hit, bringing in over $1 billion within weeks.

The Joker sequel is expected to be released on October 4, 2024 and, if Philipp's track record is anything to go by, it could very well be another blockbuster.
