According to an inside scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has entered into early development on its first Game of Thrones sequel: a live-action spin-off focusing on everyone's favorite member of the Night's Watch.

Fans will be delighted to hear that Kit Harington - who portrayed Jon Snow in all eight original seasons of the fantasy blockbuster - is attached to reprise his iconic role.

Aside from being a fan favorite, Jon Snow was also one of the few people in Game of Thrones to survive the long-awaited 2019 finale, which left many other popular characters dead. His closing scene - which saw him exiled from Westeros and journeying north to start a new life - makes him prime fodder for a spin-off, which we can only assume will follow his exploits beyond the Wall.

British actor Harington earned two Emmy nods for playing the character in the infamously bloody show. Since filming wrapped on Thrones, he's appeared in another fantasy franchise - the Marvel Cinematic Universe - co-starring in the 2021 film Eternals. Off-screen, he's also been flexing his acting muscles by starring in the National Theatre's live production of Henry V.

His return to the world of Game of Thrones could be a sign that there are more exciting projects on the horizon. So far, HBO has already announced six spin-off projects set in George R.R. Martin's fantasy universe. However, up until now, they've all been prequel shows. Jon Snow's return could open the door for more beloved characters to return to our screens.

But for now, fans can look forwards to the upcoming prequel series House of the Dragon, which tells the story of a civil war within House Targaryen around 200 years before the events of Thrones, and debuts later this summer on August 21.

Other spin-offs in the pipeline include live actions shows 10,000 Ships (a.k.a. Nymeria), 9 Voyages (a.k.a The Sea Snake), and Drunk and Egg. There are also animate prequels in the works, including The Golden Empire set in the distant land of Yi Ti.
