The beauty queen was just 27 years old.

Correia first fell ill in April, when - five days after the common procedure - she suffered both a hemorrhage and a heart attack, causing her to slip into a coma. The Sun reports that she suffered "massive bleeding and a cardiac arrest".

After months of battling for her life and 77 days in a coma, it was announced earlier this week that Correia had passed away. Her body has been sent to a medical center for an autopsy, so doctors can attempt to determine why the routine surgery took such a tragic turn.

Correira grew up in poverty in the southeastern city of Macaé. She often spoke proudly of her humble roots, writing on Instagram: "I really wasn't born in a golden cradle, I'm from a very humble family, but I'm so proud of it, really proud."

In 2018, she was crowned Miss United Continents Brazil and Miss Costa do Sol. Since then, the pageant queen has worked as a make-up specialist and amassed a huge following on Instagram, where she boasts over 55,000 followers.

After she fell into a coma in April, Correira's family and friends took over her page to share tributes and prayers for her. Yesterday, they confirmed the tragic news of her passing with an illustration of the beauty queen embracing a figure who appears to be Jesus.

They captioned the post with a Bible quote reading: "I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith."

Family priest Lidiane Alves Oliveira also spoke out about the ordeal Correira went through. "She had surgery to remove her tonsils and after five days at home, she had a haemorrhage. She went to Unimed and had a cardiac arrest on April 4 and since then she was in a coma, with no neurological activity," he said per The Sun, adding: "She passed away."

"God chose this day to collect our princess. We know that she will be greatly missed, but she will now be brightening the sky with her smile," the priest concluded.

Our thoughts are with Correia's family, friends, and fans at this time...
