Surgeon Tells Court That Depp’s Account Of Severed Finger Is 'Inconsistent' With Injury

A surgeon has testified that Johnny Depp's account of his severed finger is "inconsistent" with the injury he sustained.

The 58-year-old Edward Scissorhands star is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million after she referred to herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse" in an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post back in 2018. Heard never mentioned Depp by name within the piece.

Nevertheless, Depp has repeatedly denied any allegations that he was physically violent toward his ex-wife.

Heard is countersuing her ex-husband for $100 million, claiming she was only ever violent against Depp in self-defense or defense of her younger sister, per NBC News.

"Well, the medical data is inconclusive," Moore testified on Monday. "It’s not consistent with what we see in the described injury pattern or in the clinical photographs."

"Looking at the images, there’s really no significant injury of the dorsum of the finger and to create the type of injury with that type of a crush injury, we would anticipate both injuries to the fingernail and other parts of the finger," Moore continued.

Jurors were shown graphic photos of Depp’s finger injury as well as x-rays. Dr. Moore noted that if the injury came from the liquor bottle, he would've expected to have seen other lacerations documented in medical records.

Johnny Depp's attorney, Camille Vasquez, questioned the doctor's testimony concerning his assessment of the actor's damaged finger.

Vasquez argued that Moore was not the one who treated or examined Depp's hand, therefore he is not in a position to definitively rule out that the thrown liquor bottle caused his injury.

"My testimony is that I can rule out the injury as caused by the mechanism described by Mr. Depp in his deposition," Moore replied.

Moore disclosed that he cannot identify the object that impacted Depp’s finger nor completely ruled out that it was caused by a liquor bottle.

Throughout the duration of the trial, Depp's 2015 finger injury was one of many subjects the former couple has disagreed on.

According to court documents filed by Heard's legal team, Depp cut his own finger off when he slammed "a hard plastic phone against the wall" while in Australia, Insider reports.

However, during his testimony, Depp refuted these claims, and said that it was Heard who severed the top of his middle right finger by throwing a glass vodka bottle at him. Depp added that he would never have severed his own finger, as he loves playing the guitar.

Depp's former nurse even gave a testimony in which she described trying to find the actor's finger in the "messy" house.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is expected to take the stand at some point this week.
