Duolingo Under Fire After Making 'Joke' About Alleged Domestic Violence Survivor Amber Heard

Language-learning app Duolingo is being slammed after its social media team left an "insensitive" comment about Amber Heard on TikTok.

The Aquaman star is currently embroiled in a high-profile defamation trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp, who she is countersuing for $100 million.

Depp first took Heard to court over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post, in which she claimed to be a survivor of domestic abuse. The Pirates of the Caribbean star maintains that he was the real victim in the tumultuous relationship and that Heard's allegations wrecked his reputation and career.

Heard stands by her article, and has cited multiple occasions when she claims Depp was physically abusive toward her

Over the past few weeks, the explosive trial has made headlines around the world as more and more details of the celebrity exes' violent marriage emerge. Both Heard and Depp have given emotional testimonies; Heard in particular broke down crying as she recalled incidents when her then-husband allegedly beat her until she feared for her life.

Despite the heavy subject matter, some have taken to social media to joke about the trial - including the social media team of the language-learning app Duolingo.

The team behind the popular app has sparked outrage by leaving an odd comment under a clip of the trial uploaded by NBC News on Tuesday.

In the video, Heard can be seen on the witness stand during her cross-examination, giving evidence to suggest she was the target of an online smear campaign.

"You can look either of us up online and figure out who’s being abused," the Aquaman star says.

Duolingo's official TikTok account left a question in the comments section, writing: "Y’all think amber watches tiktok?"
