On Friday's episode of the 47-year-old's talk show, Barrymore told guest Anthony Anderson that she "cannot handle" the developing trial between Depp and Heard.

"It’s like one layer of crazy, it’s a seven-layer dip of insanity," she told Anderson.

"I know that these are two people’s real lives and I know what it’s like to have your life put out in public," Barrymore added, before saying: "I understand all the feelings, but they are actually offering up this information that nobody had to know. This is crazy!"

Of course, despite the outlandish revelations that have emerged from the ongoing trial, at the heart of Depp and Heard's defamation lawsuit are accusations of domestic abuse from both sides.

The 58-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star is suing ex-wife Heard, 36, for $50 million after the Aquaman star referred to herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse" in a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post.

Heard is countersuing for $100 million - claiming she was only ever violent against Depp in self-defense or defense of her younger sister, per NBC News.

During his testimony last month, Depp was asked in court if he was a victim of domestic abuse, to which he answered: "Yes, I am."

As a result, many fans called out Barrymore for the way she described the ongoing trial on Friday's show, with some going as far as to accuse the actor for "mocking domestic abuse".

Taking to Instagram, the Charlie's Angel star has offered an apology to her fans, as well as promising to "grow and change".

"It has come to my attention that I have offended people with making light of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and for that I just want to deeply apologize and appreciate everyone who spoke out because this can be a teachable moment for me and how I move forward and how I conduct myself," she said in an Instagram video.

She added: "I can be a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person and I very much appreciate the depth of this and I will grow and change from it, and I thank everyone helping me grow along the way and teaching me. Thank you."

In the comments section of the video, many of Barrymore's fans have accepted the apology.
