But there might still be hope when it comes to bringing her killer to justice. Investigators are now using DNA technology to examine evidence. 1,500 pieces of evidence, including 1,000 DNA samples, have been screened.
That's giving investigators a renewed hope in solving the case after all these years.
"Thanks to the huge advances in DNA technology, multiple suspects have been run through the system to check for matches," police said in a statement. But the case has been stumping police for years. There has been so much false hope and evidence that only led to dead ends.
Still, investigator Laura Woodward believes the case can still be solved. She says the investigation was flawed from the start because Boulder police didn't even have a homicide unit at the time.
Now, Paula has written a book about the little girl's murder called Unsolved: The JonBenét Ramsey Murder 25 Years Later.
