Why This Cher Interview From 1996 About Men Is Going Viral?

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Cher is the greatest living human being. With 53(!) years in show business, Cher is a musical icon, as well as an Academy Award winning actor (she picked up her gong for her role in Moonstruck starring opposite Nicholas Cage), and has staged not one, but FOUR musical comebacks.

We only believe in life after love because of Cher.

Cher can currently be found reigning supreme on Twitter, performing shows, starring in the greatest film of all time, Burlesque, calling out a certain presidential hopeful, and being an ABSOLUTE QUEEN.

However, now an old interview with the legend has started to circulate on Facebook and it’s completely iconic for SO many reasons.

The clip is taken from an interview Cher did in 1996 with Jane Pauley, where she was asked about certain comments she made about men comparing them to deserts, and has been watched over 12 million times.

“You said a man is not a necessity, a man is luxury,” Pauley says, to which Cher replies, “Like desert, yeah.  A man is absolutely not a necessity.”

When asked about whether she meant that to sound “mean and bitter” Cher had the best response

“Not at all. I adore desert. I love men. I think men are the coolest, but you don’t really need them to live,

“My mom said to me, ‘You know, sweetheart, you should settle down and marry a rich man,'” she continued, “I said, ‘Mom, I am a rich man.'”

ICONIC.

Before this moment, Cher was asked about her album It’s a Man’s World, which featured her hit “Walking in Memphis.”

“I feel badly for [men] in someways,” the singer said. “I can wear pants and a dress. And it goes all the way in. Men have a harder time jumping from soft side to hard side, and they’re very vulnerable and they’re not strong.”

SLAY US CHER.

Ending her discussion of the male species, Cher said,

“My experience with men is great because I pick them because I like them. I don’t need them.”

We have to say, we TOTALLY agree with Cher on this one. As she said in her song, this is a woman’s world.
