30 lbs of Dry Ice in a Swimming Pool? Is He Crazy?!

Dry ice is a wonder to behold. The effect created when pouring water over it is so entrancing, it’s no wonder it’s a staple of rock concerts and magic shows everywhere.

Despite its name, dry ice isn’t water – it’s frozen carbon dioxide. When exposed to water, which is much warmer than carbon dioxide’s freezing point of -109 degrees Fahrenheit, the substance goes directly from a solid to a gas in a process known as sublimation. It’s pretty standard science.

But have you ever wondered what would happen if you threw, say, 30 pounds of it into a pool of water? If so, the video below will enlighten you.
