After nearly 63 years, a South Dakota couple show us that not even death can keep them apart. The elderly couple died just 20 minutes apart in a nursing home in Platte, South Dakota.
Henry and Jeanette De Lange both died on July 31 after being together for over 6 decades. The couple were happily married and bore 5 children together.
Lee De Lange, one of their sons said that there was a divine quality to having both of them pass at roughly the same time. “We’re calling it a beautiful act of God’s providential love and mercy,” the son said. “You don’t pray for it because it seems mean but you couldn’t ask for anything more beautiful.”
The 87 year old mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease had been in the nursing home since 2011. Henry, a Korean War Veteran would come to the nursing home and visit his wife often. “Dad visited mom once a day, twice, or maybe three times a day. It was very sweet,” Lee De Lange said.
It wasn’t until the father suffered a terrible fall that he requested to be in the same nursing home with his wife. A wonderful husband who had his wife on his mind all day.
Truly a beautiful thing indeed. They said many family members gathered before the parents passed away since they got a call saying that things were not looking too good. Jeanette De Lange, 87 and suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, died first at 5:10 p.m. Family members present said she passed away peacefully but that wasn’t the most touching part.
Upon his mother passing away, one of the brother told the father, 86 and fighting prostate cancer, “Mom’s gone to heaven,” you don’t have to fight anymore. Something along the lines of, you can let go and join her if you wanted to dad…
And just twenty minutes later, at 5:30 p.m, the father did just that. Before he passed away, the children said he briefly opened his eyes and looked at his wife before joining her.
Wow. A scene coming straight out of hollywood. A touching story about the power of love and how not even death can keep these two love birds apart.
