Katy Perry Surprises Orlando Survivor On Ellen

Katy Perry’s music doesn’t often serve much purpose, besides infuriating most of us who are blessed with functioning ears and an aversion to auto-tuning.

However, all that changed a few days ago on The Ellen DeGeneres Show – one of the few remaining sources of light and hope on American television.

Orlando shooting survivor, Tony Marrero told Ellen how Katy’s song Rise helped him get through a tough recovery in hospital, after the horrific attack at Pulse Nightclub on 12 June.

A visibly emotional Marrero explained that he played the song on repeat (much to the annoyance of his boyfriend) as he dealt with the trauma. He called Katy Perry ‘amazing’.

He said:
I just want to say thank you for everything you do.
Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day I was in that hospital all the way to now.
Katy, also weeping, added:
We’re both electrified by each other and so inspired.
The pop star then offered to pay for Marrero’s first year at film school, after it became apparent that he has a creative streak.

Katy’s most recent single, Rise dropped just a day after those notorious Orlando Bloom dick pics were released, sparking speculation that the whole saga had been a press stunt. I’m sure Katy is very pleased to have the tune associated with a cause altogether more worthwhile.

If her music helps this brave, strong man process the horrifying events he’s been through, then Katy Perry is utterly invaluable in our books.
