Family Dog Dies In Raging Fire, His Heartbreaking Act of Heroism Saved The Life Of His Tiny Human

On August 14, a hero laid down his life for the love and protection of 8-month-old Viviana Poremski. His name was Polo, he was the family's dog and Viviana's faithful compainion until the end.

When the fire broke out, Viviana's mother, Erika Poremski, had just stepped outside to get something from her car. When she turned around, the house was in flames and her baby daughter was trapped inside. Erika rushed back into the house to save her child, but the flames had spread too quickly. Her baby and her dog were trapped on the second floor, and try as she might, Erika couldn't reach them.
"I just heard her crying and I couldn't get to her," Erika told local news. "I tried really hard, everyone in the neighborhood tried. They were kicking the doors in and kicking the windows out. I couldn't (get her out). Nobody could." Erika bravely ran back into the burning home numerous times and suffered burns on her hands and face with each attempt.
When firefighters arrived, they could see fire and smoke coming from the first and second floors of the home. When they entered to rescue little Viviana, they witnessed a heartbreaking scene. Polo had used his body to sheild the baby and sacrificed himself to protect her from the flames.

"He was my first baby and now I lost him," wept Poremski. "She only had burns on her side because of it, he stayed with her the whole time in the bedroom ad wouldn't even come downstairs to get out the door."

Polo's sacrifice was a truly courageous act of selfless love and loyalty.
Baby Viviana suffers from burns on 19 per cent of her body including her face, arm and side. At the time of posting, she is still in the ICU at the children's hospital where she remains unconscious as doctors run tests and monitor her recovery.

"I'm just praying I don't lose her." Erika told reporters, "She's all I have and it just happened so fast, I just don't understand it. I just don't know why this stuff happens."
While the cause of the fire is still being investigated, the mother and daughter have nothing to go back to - they have lost everything. Friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe page for Erika and Viviana; anyone who wishes to donate and receive updates on their recovery can visit the site here.
