Ottawa bus driver Dan Stoddard knew something was immediately wrong when he saw a half-naked woman waiting at a bus stop at 1 o’clock in the morning. His suspicions were confirmed when she did not get on the bus when he pulled over. Another bus would not come this way for a few hours, so Stoddard knew he was this woman’s last lifeline in the event she needed help.
After pulling over, Stoddard stepped off the bus and introduced himself to the woman. He asked if there was anything wrong, and she revealed that she had been physically abused. She was running away from a domestic violence situation back at home, and she didn’t know where to go or who to turn to. Immediately, Stoddard began comforting the woman, informing her that he would help her get to safety. There were two men on his bus, and Stoddard kindly asked them to move to the back to give him and the woman some space.
Stoddard then phoned the police and stayed by the woman’s side until the cops came. Then, he proceeded to finish his bus route. Brendan Fowlie, one of the passengers on Stoddard’s bus, took a photo of him comforting the woman, and it went viral online.
