Merle is a pattern of browns, grays, whites, and blacks that appear on many different breeds of dog. Keller, an Australian shepherd, is a double merle.
Double merle dogs are born mostly white and deaf and blind or with compromised vision and hearing.
The merle pattern is a desired in purebreds and breeders will breed two merles together hoping to get pups that look like mom and dad. Keller’s breeder supposedly had plans to shoot her shortly after her birth because she wasn’t what he wanted (and she was deaf and blind).
Keller was saved and now travels with her double merle friend named Braille.
Keller’s mom, the founder of Keller’s Cause, is helping Keller be a voice for special needs dogs.
Keller know 25 different commands and is a very active dog!
Together, Keller and Braille are changing how people see dogs with special needs! Give them a chance!
