Tricia Klein, a mother of three, has gone viral on the Internet when she posted a picture of her son’s birthday invitation online. While this doesn’t seem special at first, wait until you read what the invitation says…
As a mother of three, Tricia had a difficult time adapting to her son, Timothy. While she had experience raising children, Timothy was diagnosed with nonverbal autism at age 2. It was unexpected, and Tricia had to quickly learn how to help Timothy overcome the daily challenges he faces on the fly. While her entire family was supportive of Timothy, it’s hard to expect people outside the family to consider Timothy’s special needs.
Now, at age 7, Timothy still faces many challenges. His nonverbal autism makes it hard for him to interact with others, especially in large group settings. Despite that, he’s just like any other 7-year-old boy. He enjoys playing soccer, swimming, and watching YouTube videos.
As a result of his condition, Tricia has been forced to decline many invitations to birthday parties. While she appreciates the invite, birthday parties would put Timothy under a considerable amount of stress.
But one day, Timothy came home with a birthday invitation. Just as Tricia was about to decline, she noticed there was a special note attached to the invitation address to her. When Tricia read it, she broke down in tears.
The note reads:
“Carter sat beside Timothy at school and he always talks about him. I really hope he can come. We are renting a bounce castle that we can attach a small bounce slide at the bottom. We will also have water balloons and water guns. Maybe Timothy can come earlier in the day if it would too much with the whole class. Let me know so we can make it work.”
It was beautiful to see another mother understand Timothy’s condition and make the necessary accommodations for it. The last phrase – “we can make it work” – really hit home for Tricia, and it was so touching that she burst into tears.
How awesome is this? This mother’s note would have made me tear up!
