Pilot with Nerves of Steel Waits Until the Last Second to Eject from Burning Harrier

It takes years of training and field experience to become a skilled fighter pilot. But it takes more than that to make the crucial decisions that can save lives.

A Harrier pilot made the crucial decision of ejecting at the very last second when his jet crashed on the runway at an airport in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

After receiving a hostile missile alert, the pilot was forced to land from a short distance during its final approach and at a higher altitude than required. The jet descended too fast and slammed into the runway, catching fire as it slid towards four aircraft waiting to take off, but the pilot managed to steer the Harrier out of harm’s way before ejecting.

What a fantastic maneuver.
