School District Suspends 5-Year-Old For Bringing A Bubble Gun To School

Bringing a toy to school shouldn't end in punishment, but this is apparently what our society has come to.

A 5-year-old girl in Brighton, Colorado recently brought a princess bubble gun to school in her princess backpack, obviously excited to show off her bubble skills to her classmates.

Upon seeing the toy, however, school officials chose to immediately suspend the girl for the remainder of the day. Naturally, many have perceived this punishment as an extreme overreaction — especially the girl's mother.

"They said it was a fake weapon, and that I needed to come get her," the girl's mother told ABC. "I appreciate that they're trying to keep our kids safe, I really do. But there needs to be some common sense."

Fortunately, it looks like the school will be protected from any future incidents involving wanton bubble-blowing as the girl is clearly serving as an example to her peers. A spokesperson for the school board defended the disciplinary decision in a statement, and that it "is consistent with [their] district policy."

The girl's mother, to her credit, is trying to make the whole debacle a learning experience. "I explained to her, 'Hey you messed up not asking mommy if you could bring that to school. You know to ask.'"

So, crisis averted! No soap suds will be interrupting any educational experiences! Thank goodness!
