In scenes that are two parts beautiful and one part terrifying, this video shows a nearly 70-strong gang of tiger sharks ripping into a dead humpback whale in the idyllic crystal-clear waters of Australia.
Just last week, tourists on board a boat with cruise company Eco Abrolhos caught sight of the bloody banquet near Dirk Hartog Island, Western Australia, and managed to capture the whole thing with smartphone cameras and an aerial drone. The cruise company have since uploaded it to their Facebook, where it's been viewed nearly 2 million times.
Not surprisingly, the area is also known as “Shark Bay.” According to Australia's Department of Parks and Wildlife, it first acquired this name in 1699 after English explorer William Dampier was blown away by the number of sharks he came across in his journey through the bay. The area still hosts at least 28 species of sharks and six species of rays.
